The group I lead works in the field of the mechanics of respiratory system. This is an important issue for intensivists, since a vast majority of patients admitted to intensive care units are mechanically ventilated.
My research topics include:
- Study of Respiratory Mechanics by using simulators (developed in MatLab/Simulink environment)
- Use of Artificial Intelligence methods like Artificial Neural Networks to assess respiratory mechanics
- Image processing of Computed Tomography of lungs, to extract Physiological variables from Morphology
- Sinchrotron Radiation Computed Tomography to assess lung micro-mechanics
