Luigi Gentile is an associate professor of physical chemistry at the Department of Chemistry of the University of Bari Aldo Moro, Bari, Italy.
He pursues a multidisciplinary approach to understanding the relationship between chemical composition and complex supramolecular structures. He is focusing his research activity on the out-of-equilibrium phenomena of complex fluids. His research focuses on colloidal and nanostructured complex fluids: bio-based surfactants, biosurfactants, surfactants, biopolymers and polymers for advanced applications. This includes many systems that have practical and biological applications in areas like soaps, food materials, cellulose, soil organic matter, and fungal decomposition. He is an expert on the rheological properties of materials and their relationship with the supramolecular structure. He is working with small-angle light, X-ray, and neutron scattering to reveal the structural feature of materials. He has been involved in numerous research projects and has received several grants and fellowships, including funding from the European Soft Matter Infrastructure (EUSMI) and the Swedish Research Council. He is the recipient of the FIS 2021 grant for the project titled "Out-of-Equilibrium Bio-Based Polymeric Complex Fluids" - OutBioPoly.
Luigi is also a permanent member of the Center for Colloids and Surface Science (CSGI), Florence, Italy; He is a member of the European Colloid and Interface Society (ECIS); the Italian Society of Chemistry (SCI), and the Italian Neutron Spectroscopy Society (SISN). He is the point of contact for the Apulia region for the SISN.
One of his main research activities is stimuli-responsive complex fluids and their applications.
