- STORIA DELLA FILOLOGIA E DELLA TRADIZIONE CLASSICA (a.a. 2023/2024, I semestre)
History of Classical Scholarship and Classical Tradition (2023/2024, 1st semester)
- Linee di storia della filologia antica
Saranno lette e analizzate in classe una serie di testimonianze greche e latine relative allo sviluppo della critica letteraria e della filologia antica. Il corso procederà in ordine cronologico, dall’età arcaica greca al II secolo d.C., con particolare attenzione alla filologia di età ellenistica.
Le studentesse e gli studenti dovranno curare autonomamente lo studio di un manuale.
I materiali per il lavoro in classe saranno forniti dal docente.

- History of Philology in the Greek and Roman world
Evidence in Greek and Latin concerning the development of criticism and philology in antiquity will be read and examined during class. Starting from the archaic Greek period and with particular attention to the Hellenistic period, the course will extend as far as the 2nd century CE.
Texts to be read during class will be provided by the teacher.

- Le vie dei testi
La prima parte del corso sarà dedicata ad alcune informazioni di base relative alla trasmissione del patrimonio letterario dell’antichità greca e latina.
- Oltre l’umano, dentro l’umano. Vite moderne di ibridi e mostri antichi
La seconda parte del corso sarà dedicata alla ripresa di figure antiche dell’ibrido e del mostruoso nelle letterature e nelle culture di età medievale, moderna e contemporanea.

- The Paths of Texts
The first part of the course will be devoted to general information about the transmission of ancient Greek and Latin texts.
- Beyond the Human, inside the Human. Moden Lives of Ancient Hybrids and Monsters
The second part of the course will deal with the survival of figures of ancient hybrids and monsters in post-classical cultures.
Texts to be read during class will be provided by the teacher.

- FILOLOGIA GRECA E LATINA (a.a. 2023/2024, II semestre)
Greek and Latin Philology (2023/2024, 2nd semester)
- Le “Vite dei dieci oratori” pseudo-plutarchee
Il corso sarà dedicato prevalentemente alle “Vite dei dieci oratori” trasmesse con le opere di Plutarco. Saranno oggetto di analisi: la tradizione manoscritta della raccolta e la questione della ‘authorship’; il carattere dell’opuscolo e il suo valore per la conoscenza dell’oratoria attica; i rapporti con la tradizione biografica e critica antica; il rapporto con i capp. 259-268 della “Biblioteca” di Fozio; la storia editoriale dell’opuscolo.
- Letture filologiche della “Tebaide” di Stazio: il caso dei primi commentatori
Affiancherà il tema principale del corso un ciclo limitato e compatto di lezioni-esercitazioni a cura del dott. S. Brillante (cultore della materia), dedicate a questioni relative a un testo latino. Saranno analizzate, in particolare, testimonianze di grammatici antichi utili per la ricostruzione del testo e per la fortuna del poema di Stazio.
I testi per il lavoro in classe saranno distribuiti a cura del docente.
Per la preparazione individuale si consiglia di tenere presenti due libri fondamentali:
* P. Maas, La critica del testo, a c. di G. Ziffer, Roma 2017, 20212 [ed. or. Textkritik, 1927, 19502, 19573, 19604], del quale si potranno privilegiare le pp. 1-34 (A. Concetti fondamentali, B. La recensio, C. L’examinatio);
* G. Pasquali, Storia della tradizione e critica del testo, Firenze 19522 [= ed. Firenze, Le Lettere, 1988 e rist.]: ci si potrà concentrare almeno sulle pp. 1-40 (Il metodo del Lachmann; Ci fu sempre un archetipo?; Eliminatio codicum descriptorum) o pp. 41-101 (Recentiores, non deteriores).

- The “Lives of the Attic Orators” of Pseudo-Plutarch
The main topic of the course will be the “Lives of the Attic Orators” that have been handed down to us under the name of Plutarch. The following issues will be addressed: manuscript tradition; authorship; nature and character of the text; its value for the knowledge of the Attic Orators; its relation to ancient biographical and critical traditions; its relation to Photius’ “Library”; the editorial history of the work.
- Reading Statius’ “Thebaid” philologically: The earlier Commentators
A brief series of lectures on a Latin text (Statius’ “Thebaids”) will be held by dr. S. Brillante. In particular, the unnoticed philological evidence that is included in works of ancient grammarians will be examined.
