Main research topics:

Scientific interest has been focused on mites and ticks of reptiles and amphibians and the pathogens they transmit. His research activity has long been focused on herpetological medicine, with emphasis on the epidemiology of infectious and parasitic diseases of zoonotic interest. Of note are his researches concerning zoonotic pathogens transmitted by ticks (Rickettsia spp. and Borrelia spp.) associated with reptiles in Italy. In recent years, he has studied the interaction between Leishmania tarentolae of reptiles and mammals, in an endemic area for Leishmania infantum in the Mediterranean basin.
