Curriculum

Graduated in 1993 in Agricultural Sciences, at the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Bari, with full marks and honors, he is enabled to practice the free profession of Doctor of Agronomy. In 2002 he obtained the title of PhD in Zootechnical Sciences (XIII Cycle). From 31/12/2004 to 22/02/2023 he was Technical Officer category D2, technical, technical-scientific and data processing area at the University of Bari, where on leave, from 23/02/2023 he held the role of fixed-term researcher, pursuant to art. 24 – paragraph 3 - letter A) - of Law no. 240 of 30/12/2010 – Scientific disciplinary sector AGR/18, competition sector “07/G1. The research activity concerned the nutrition and feeding of animals and the quantitative-qualitative aspects of livestock and fish production. He was an expert on the subject for the teaching of "Environmentally Friendly Zootechnical Systems" within the Degree Course in Protection and Management of the Territory and Agro-Forest Landscape of the University of Bari (Resolution of the Department of Agro-Environmental Sciences and Territorial dated 06/19/2017). In the A.Y. 2009/2010 he was a contract professor of the teaching of "Nutrition and animal nutrition" (AGR/18, 4 credits) in the degree course in agro-food biology and nutrition at the Faculty of MM.FF.NN. of the University of Salento. For the AA.AA. from 2005/2006 to 2011/2012 he was an uninterrupted lecturer in the PhD in "Zootechnic, Fish and Wildlife Sciences" (SCIZIF) of the University of Bari in the course of "Laboratory of histological physico-chemical techniques and bromatology of foods and products” (AGR/18, 2 CFU/year). From 09/18/2000 to 12/06/2000, as visiting scientist he carried out research at the University of Wisconsin for which he collaborated in an experimental test under the guidance of Prof. Louis Armentano to study the effects of addition of water to a dry diet on the feeding behavior of dairy cows. The research was focused on evaluating the possibility of reducing the "sorting activity" by the animals. From 22/03/2001 to 30/05/2001 he was also a visiting scientist at the "Department of Animal Science" of the University of California in Davis (USA), with Prof. Peter H. Robinson as tutor. Here he collaborated in an experimental test for the determination of the energy value of different forages grown with two different levels of soil salinity. For the determination of the energy value of forage, he gained experience on the application of the "in vitro gas production" technique (Menke et al., 1979) through the use of rumen liquid from cows equipped with rumen fistula. He has been a speaker at numerous national and international congresses and conferences in the animal production sector. He was also invited speaker of the work entitled: "Sheep and goat native genotypes breeding in Lucania for the preservation of animal biodiversity" at the Agricultural University of Tirana, Faculty of Agriculture and Environment, Tirana, October 3rd 2019. He periodically performs peer-reviewer of scientific papers for the MDPI editorial group (Animals, Foods).He is an Ordinary Member of the ASBM Association of Mediterranean Biodiversity Sciences, ASPA Animal Science and Production Association and the EAP European Federation of Animal Science. 

He is the author and/or co-author of 73 scientific papers, published in national and international specialized journals and conference proceedings, reporting the following SCOPUS bibliometric indexes: papers 33, citations 343, h-index 11.
