Mario Gervasi is Associate Professor of International Law at the Department of Political Science of the University of Bari.
Previously, he was a Research Fellow in International Law at the Faculty of Law of Sapienza University of Rome (2019–2022) and an Assistant Professor of International Law at the University of Bari's Department of Political Science (2022–2025).
He holds a master's degree in law (cum laude) from Sapienza University of Rome (2012), an LLM in international human rights and humanitarian law (with merit) from the University of Essex (2013), and a PhD in international law from Sapienza University of Rome (2017).
He was a visiting professor at the Zhongnan University of Economics and Law (Wuhan, China) in 2019 and 2023. Between 2014 and 2018, he spent several periods conducting research at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law in Heidelberg, Germany. In 2024, he spent a research period at the Luxembourg Centre for European Law.
His research focuses on international law-making processes, with a particular interest in the international protection of the environment.
In addition to various articles and book chapters, he is the author of the monograph Prevention of Environmental Harm under General International Law: An Alternative Reconstruction (ESI/Nomos, Naples/Baden-Baden, 2021, pp. XVIII–430), with reviews published in the Italian Yearbook of International Law (2022), Rivista di diritto internazionale (2022) and Nachhaltigkeitsrecht (2023).

Mario Gervasi è Professore associato di Diritto internazionale presso il Dipartimento di Scienze politiche dell’Università di Bari, ove è stato Ricercatore (RTDB) nel triennio 2022-2025.
Precedentemente è stato Ricercatore di Diritto internazionale (RTDA) nel Dipartimento di Studi giuridici ed economici dell’Università Sapienza di Roma. Ha conseguito il Dottorato di ricerca nella medesima università e l’LLM in International Human Rights and Humanitarian Law presso la School of Law dell’Università di Essex (Regno Unito).
È stato visiting professor nella Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, Wuhan (2019, 2023), e visiting scholar presso il Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law, Heidelberg (vari periodi di ricerca tra il 2014 e il 2018), e il Luxembourg Centre for European Law dell'Università di Lussemburgo (2024).
La sua attività di ricerca concerne le fonti del diritto internazionale, con particolare riguardo alla tutela internazionale dell’ambiente.
