Attività di Ricerca

The main research field is experimental high-energy physics with accelerators, in particular the search for signals of new physics within and beyond the Standard Model. She has held numerous important roles in the coordination of large international collaborations, in particular in the ALEPH and CMS experiments at CERN in Geneva. Personal contribution has been always focused on: the design, assembly, commissioning, and operation of different kind of detectors in complex experimental environments; data analysis and paper reviewing; coordination of international teams of physicists, engineers, and technicians; managerial responsibilities of local, national, and international groups.  The results of her research reached the pinnacle of relevance in 2012 with the discovery of the Higgs boson with the CMS experiment, which earned F. Englert and P. Higgs the 2013 Nobel Prize and a special mention in the CMS experiment. She was the Project Manager of the CMS Muon System at CERN (with about 400 physicists from all over the world) and is currently the president of the Institution Board of the experiment's Muon System. She is also a member of the Scientific Committee "Detector R&D Roadmap Panel di ECFA" (European Committee for Future Accelerators).

The understanding and study of the parameters of the accelerator always play a significant role to achieve scientific results.

Currently, her activities also extend to the design and implementation of detectors typical of high-energy physics for use in clinical-diagnostic, radioactive waste monitoring, and port and customs control safety applications. As an academic researcher with a keen interest in interdisciplinary projects, she has been actively involved in outreach projects, in particular those aiming to explore the intersections between art and science by creating a network of artists, scientists, and cultural institutions across Italy and Europe.
