Research

  • The research activity of Prof. Michele Camero has been focused on the study of infectious diseases of animals, with particular reference to the development of innovative diagnostic techniques of a molecular type. Other objectives of the research activity were represented by epidemiological surveillance, the development of immunizing devices and the study of both synthetic and natural antiviral substances. The professor Camero has dedicated himself, in particular, to the study of the goat herpesvirus, which, by virtue of the multiple biological similarities with the human herpesvirus type 2, has been used as a study model for the preparation of vaccines and protocols useful therapeutics for human herpetic infections.
  • Recently, Prof. Camero has also broadened his interest in human and animal enteric viruses (caliciviruses: vesiviruses, noroviruses, sapoviruses), with particular reference to zoonotic implications and virus discovery.
