BARTOLOMEO NICOLA

Born in Bari on 21/12/1976.

 

Education and Training

2013: PhD in "Clinical Pharmacology and Medical Therapy" at the University of Bari Aldo Moro.

2005: First level Master in Statistics for Health, specialization in "Methodology of biomedical research" at the University of Milan - Bicocca.

2003: Degree in Statistical and Economic Sciences at the University of Bari Aldo Moro.

 

Professional experience

2022: Achievement of the National Scientific Qualification for Associate Professor for the SSD MED/01 (Medical Statistics).

Since 2010 (Current position): Researcher in Medical Statistics (SSD MED/01) at the Interdisciplinary Department of Medicine, of the University of Bari Aldo Moro.

Previous positions:

2008-2010: Research fellow at the Department of Biomedical Sciences and Human Oncology, Section of Hygiene of the University of Bari Aldo Moro.

2006-2007: collaborated with Department of Biomedical Science and human oncology, University of Bari Aldo Moro, with a research contract in the INTERREG Italy-Greece project, dealing with data management and data quality.

 

Academic and scientific activity

He is professor of Medical Statistics in the Course in Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics, and in others various degree, post-graduate and PhD courses at the University of Bari Aldo Moro.

He produced 95 printed publications, 43 indexed in Scopus with an h index of 12 and a total of 378 citations (source Scopus). He carries out research aimed at developing stochastic models for the study of chronic diseases through use of health databases, experimenting with Record Linkage techniques. He participated in the “IESIT” project (Epidemiological Survey in the Polluted Site of Taranto) applying Bayesian models for the estimation of the risks of incidence and mortality related to environmental pollution and their representation on geographical maps. He deals with the statistical analysis of data in genetic and epidemiological studies, genetic epidemiology of complex diseases such as Melanoma, HIV and HCV, processing phenotypic, genetic and clinical data in case-control studies and screening. He collaborates with researchers from the same Department and other Departments of the University of Bari in the studies of endocrinology, obesity, nutrition and related diseases. He collaborates with the Epidemiological Observatory of the Puglia Region for the statistical analysis of data relating to Maternal and Child Health and was the regional referent for Puglia at the Ministry of Health for the revision of the Childbirth Assistance Certificate. He was a member of the Scientific Committee and organizer of the national conference of the Society of Medical Statistics and Clinical Epidemiology (SISMEC) and speaker at national conferences. He is guest editor for the Special Issue "Data and Methods for Monitoring and Decisions in Public Health" of the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health. He is review editor for the Frontiers in Animal Sciences journal and he works as a reviewer for numerous international scientific journals.
