Research

The research activity is focused on Food safety, in particular on the food safety control, nutritional and nutraceutical quality of foods, detection of endocrine disruptors in foodstuff by advanced chemical techniques and development of new technologies for food preservation and safety.

Author and Co-author of 185 peer-reviewed scientific articles in national and international journals, authors of three scientific books and four chapters within the scientific book. As for September 2016, the h-index (Scopus) is 19.

Research Activity

Major areas of research include: food safety control; detection of endocrine disruptors in foodstuff; detection of xenobiotic compounds (mycotoxins, dioxin, PCBs, PAHs, Marine Biotoxins) in foodstuff by advanced chemical techniques; development of analytical techniques for the analysis of mycotoxins in several foodstuff; food Shelf Life testing; functional food; food fraud; food microbiology; biotechnology applied to Food safety; quality of honey and beehive products; hygienic-sanitary quality of the traditional products.

Research Project

Scientific Coordinator and Project Unit Coordinator, in charge of research projects funded by Italian institutions (Ministry of Health, Ministry of public education, Ministry of foreign affairs and Ministry of justice) and by Puglia Region, Italy.

Congress and seminars

Speaker at national and international congresses or seminars on issues of Medicine, Biology, Pharmaceutical sciences and Veterinary Medicine.

Collaboration with scientific journals

Referee for Italian and non-Italian State-owned bodies and for several scientific journals (Food Chemistry, Meat science, Poultry science, Toxins, Food microbiology and International Journal of Food microbiology).
