Sea Turtle Clinic (STC)

Sea turtles affected by serious pathologies, mainly deriving from the impact of human activities, are brought to the STC from the most important recovery centers of Puglia, Abruzzo, Basilicata and Calabria. The objective of the STC is to treat turtles belonging to endangered species and to allow their reintroduction into the natural environment. The STC also carries out studies on the etiopathogenesis of the most common pathologies in these animals, as well as on new pharmacological and therapeutic protocols. The STC offers the students of the Degree Course in Veterinary Medicine the opportunity to learn how to take care of these important species. Over the past four years, over 900 sea turtles have been hospitalized; almost all of them had been injured  because of human activities; more than 92% of them were successfully released into the sea after treatment.
