Lettera di solidarietà per la professoressa Rosa Capolupo
Welcome to the Department of Economics and Mathematics (DEM) at the University of Bari. The Department has its roots in the Commerce High School (Scuola superiore di commercio) established in Bari in 1886, having as its founding director Maffeo Pantaleoni, perhaps the most renown Italian economist of the time.
The DEM consists of economists, public economics scholars and mathematicians actively engaged in research and teaching both at the national level and internationally. The main research areas covered by DEM include: macroeconomic theory, economics of regulation and transport economics, banking and financial economics, international economics, regional economics, various sub-themes in public economics, migration economics, financial mathematics, theory of approximation with functional analysis methods, contour problems for elliptical, parabolic and hyperbolic equation systems in irregular frontier domains, weakly hyperbolic equations and systems, hyperbolic polynomials.
The research outputs of the DEM consist of books with the chief national (e.g. Il Mulino, Laterza, McGraw Hill) and international (e.g. Cambridge University Press, Edward Elgar, Elsevier, Palgrave/Mc Millan, Springer) publishers and of papers on primary international journals. DSE members have been visiting professors in prestigious universities such as Berkeley, Harvard, Madrid, Montreal, Princeton, Tokyo, Toulouse.
The teaching activities of the DEM are generally within the Faculty of Economics. In addition, the DEM runs its own Doctoral Program in the Theory of Individual and Collective Choice and actively contributes to the international Erasmus Mundus Master in Economics of International Trade and European Integration (MA EITEI). In previous years the DEM repeatedly held the international Master in International Business and Economic Cooperation (MIBEC), the first Master of the University of Bari entirely taught in English.
A few economists formed at the DEM’s Doctoral Program work at primary national (e.g. Banca d’Italia, Consob, ICE) and international institutions (e.g. Bank of England) or top universities (e.g. London School of Economics).
Individually or in collective teams, DEM members have cooperated with institutions such as: Ministries of Italy’s government (Economy and Finance, Infrastructure and Transport, the Presidency of the Counsel of Ministers), the Presidency of Italy’s Republic, World Bank, IMF, OECD, European Commission, Asian Development Bank, Hong Kong Monetary Authority, Institute Max Planck of Economics in Jena, Regione Puglia and several other local institutions.
