Durante l’anestesia i problemi relativi all’esecuzione di una TC toracica sono gli artefatti da movimento per l’attività respiratoria e l’atelettasia polmonare. Utilizzando la tecnica del breath-hold, che prevede l’utilizzo della PEEP (pressione positiva di fine espirazione) è stata migliorata l’accuratezza diagnostica in pazienti con lesioni polmonari. Nello studio sono stati inseriti 7 cani che sono stati sottoposti ad esame TC con e senza PEEP (di 10 cmH2O) e sono state valutate le eventuali differenze nella visualizzazione delle lesioni polmonari da parte di 4 operatori indipendenti

The main problems related to the execution of a computed tomography of the thorax under general anesthesia are the artifacts related to pulmonary atelectasis and the respiratory movements. This preliminary study demonstrated that the breath-hold technique with the application of 10 cmH2O of positive end expiratory pressure (PEEP) is able to improve the quality and the accuracy of the images in patients with pulmonary lesions. In the study have been included 7 dogs with pulmonary lesions undergoing thoracic computed tomography without and with 10 cmH2O of PEEP.
