Research topics

The research activity of the Comparative Veterinary Pathology and Oncology sector with the support of the histopathology and immunohistochemistry laboratory is mainly oriented towards the following topics:

1) Determination of the causes of death of Cetaceans and Sea Turtles, focusing on research on the morphological alterations caused by environmental pollutants to the liver, kidney, heart and nervous system

2) Cataloging of canine tumors for the establishment of national tumor registries for the strategic planning of clinical, diagnostic and epidemiological activities

3) Collection and diagnosis of neoplastic samples from dogs and cats for the establishment of a comparative oncology biobank

4) Studies of ATP-sensitive potassium channels (KATP) on spontaneous animal tumors, determining their role in various pathophysiological conditions and channelopathies.

5) Studies of ATP-sensitive potassium channels (KATP) in previously treated experimental animals associated with mutations in the ABCC9 and KCNJ8 genes

6) Role of the ERAS gene in adult horse tissues in selective macroautophagy

7) Study of the effects of nucleotides on biomarkers of oxidative stress and intestinal morphology

8) Immunohistochemical classification of mesotheliomas in farm animals and epidemiological detection in humans

9) acute toxicity assessment study of emerging chemicals and nanomaterials using Zebrafish (Danio Renio) in vivo model.
