Apiary

The DiMev is equipped with an experimental apiary with 25 beehives in production, which offers valuable material for the study of beekeeping diseases, for research on the fight against Varroa Destructor and for the in-depth study of the role of bees as a bioindicator. The experimental apiary represents for the students a source of experience on health aspects and on various beekeeping techniques, for a correct approach also in this production chain. The apiary is an educational tool made available to students of all school levels with the aim of introducing them to the world and biology of Apis mellifera and the salient aspects of beekeeping, an important activity for environmental protection. There are numerous activities connected to the experimental apiary, such as the collection of honey which takes place in the consortium honey shop, a specially equipped room which can also be self-managed by non-professional beekeepers and by the students themselves for the production of wax and propolis.
