Activities and Equipment

The TALSEF Laboratory (Taranto Alla Luce del Sole e dell'Energia Fotovoltaica – Taranto in the Light of the Sun and Photovoltaic Energy) was established in 2009 through funding provided by the Apulia Regional Government to support teaching activities and enhance educational opportunities for students.

Originally conceived as a research hub focusing on renewable energy, the Laboratory has progressively expanded its scope through targeted investments in state-of-the-art equipment, becoming actively involved in large-scale environmental monitoring and assessment.

The Laboratory is equipped with advanced scientific instruments, including thermal imaging cameras, a PLA additive manufacturing 3D printer, a professional drone for photogrammetric and thermal surveys, and a latest-generation multi-channel particle counter capable of measuring PM10 and PM2.5 concentrations, together with other atmospheric pollutants.

The Laboratory is under the scientific supervision of Professor Bruno Notarnicola, supported by Mr Maurizio De Molfetta, who is responsible for field measurements and the operation of the Laboratory's technical equipment.
