Context analysis
DIMEPREJ embraces a social conception of complexity medicine with a vision focused on preventive health in living and working environments, on bio-morphological and molecular mechanisms underlying human diseases, on the interdisciplinary management of diagnostic activities and medical, surgical and rehabilitative therapies. The scientific and research goals of the DIMEPREJ include the combination of traditional medicine and surgery with the development of personalized, molecular and cellular medicine and minimally invasive, robotic and precision medical-surgical techniques.
DIMEPREJ’s multidisciplinary skills place it as a reference of excellence in the field of transplant and regenerative medicine, precision and gender medicine, digitalization of healthcare, telemedicine and innovative technologies in surgery, with a focus on chronic non-communicable diseases, territorial diseases, laboratory medicine and rare diseases. The Veterinary Clinics Section allows the use of animal models of disease, as well as the execution of efficacy/tolerance tests of promising molecules for therapeutic purposes. The high level of clinical care and research experience allows DIMEPREJ to participate in and promote clinical trials for the biological characterization of new drugs, nutraceuticals and medical devices.
DIMEPREJ is actively involved in the Jonic area, where research activities focus on tdevelopingan advanced scientific knowledge on environmental/occupational risk factors and genetic background to identify biomarkers predictive of citizens' health status. Further goals being implemented at Jonic Aerea will include knowledge of good practices, means and methods that will allow active promotion of citizens' health and prevention of non-communicable diseases.
Vision
The Department was founded with a vision of medicine focused on the concept of health prevention in living and working environments, on the study of bio-morphological and molecular mechanisms, on the management of health activities related to diagnosis and to medical, surgical and rehabilitative therapies in an interdisciplinary and social concept of Public Health.
The Department is strongly committed to promoting and supporting basic and clinical research with the aim of increasing the number of European funded projects. Professors at DiMrPRe-J actively participate in various research projects as PNRR, PNC and PNR (PUT NUMBERS). The Department pays special attention and monitors compliance with gender policies also thanks to the presence of a specific delegate.
The scientific production in 2023 was 546 publications of which 118 were co-authored by foreign scientists.
