Research topics

The research of the Departmento of Physics DIF is characterized by the variety of fields, visibility and prestige of the numerous national and international collaborations.

The research topics include theoretical and experimental studies of quantum physics and fundamental interactions with accelerators and space telescopes, analysis and modeling of complex systems, medical physics, solid state physics, development of quantum sensors and technologies, sensors for medical-environmental applications, laser micromachining processes, advanced techniques for the growth of thin films and development of detectors for particle physics:

  • Nuclear, Subnuclear and Astroparticle Physics
  • Quantum Technologies and Solid State Physics
  • Applied Physics
  • Theoretical Physics

In all these areas, the professors and researchers of the DIF have expertise in the design and development of detectors, data analysis, sensors, simulations and physical and numerical modeling. Furthermore, in some areas the DIF holds a considerable competitive advantage thanks to the international patenting of various devices and procedures.

Recently, some research areas of the DIF are characterized by a multidisciplinary approach having within it researchers from different but complementary areas with which profitable contaminations are taking place (for example, mathematical models, analysis of data relating to consumer behavior, perception and use of artificial intelligence in economic activities).

Research in the DIF is also carried out in collaboration with the following research institutions:

  • INFN Section of Bari
  • CNR - Institute of Photonics and NanoTechnologies (IFN) Section of Bari
