Training profile

The Specialization School in Thoracic Surgery trains specialists who acquire theoretical, scientific and professional knowledge in the pathophysiology, clinical and instrumental diagnosis, and surgical treatment of diseases affecting the respiratory system, heart, great vessels, oesophagus, mediastinum and chest wall requiring surgical management.

Specific areas of expertise include thoracic endoscopy, endoscopic and minimally invasive surgery, and the multidisciplinary management of patients with thoracic diseases.

  • Diagnosis and surgical treatment of pulmonary diseases.
  • Surgery of the pleura, mediastinum and chest wall.

Access and admission

Admission is through the national competition for Medical Area Specialization Schools reserved for medical graduates, published annually by the Italian Ministry of University and Research.
