Training profile
The Specialization School in Palliative Medicine and Palliative Care trains medical specialists with advanced expertise in the comprehensive care of patients affected by advanced, progressive and life-limiting diseases.
The training programme integrates theoretical, clinical, professional and research activities in palliative medicine, pain management, symptom control, communication with patients and families, and the organisation of integrated palliative care networks.

- Assessment and management of the clinical, psychological, social and spiritual needs of patients with advanced disease.
- Management of pain and complex symptoms in advanced illness.
- Shared care planning and effective communication with patients and families.
- Multidisciplinary teamwork and integration between hospital, community and hospice services.

- Clinical, professional and research activities in palliative medicine.
Access and admission
Admission is through the national competition for Medical Area Specialization Schools reserved for medical graduates, published annually by the Italian Ministry of University and Research.
