Training profile

The Specialization School in Neurosurgery trains medical specialists with advanced expertise in the diagnosis, clinical assessment and surgical treatment of disorders affecting the central, peripheral and autonomic nervous systems.

The training programme integrates theoretical, clinical, surgical, professional and research activities in cranial and spinal neurosurgery, neuro-oncology, cerebrovascular neurosurgery, neurotraumatology, functional neurosurgery and paediatric neurosurgery.

Skills developed

  • Diagnosis and surgical treatment of cranial and spinal neurosurgical disorders.
  • Management of neurosurgical patients during the preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative phases.
  • Neuro-oncology, cerebrovascular, trauma and functional neurosurgery.
  • Treatment of degenerative, traumatic and congenital disorders of the spine.
  • Use of advanced neurosurgical technologies, neuronavigation and minimally invasive techniques.
  • Clinical, surgical, professional and research activities in neurosurgery.

Access and admission

Admission is through the national competition for Medical Area Specialization Schools reserved for medical graduates, published annually by the Italian Ministry of University and Research.
