MODERN PHILOLOGY

One of the specific objectives of the Degree Programme is to train professionals capable of undertaking a further training course to access the teaching of literary disciplines in lower and upper secondary schools (subject to the achievement of a sufficient number of credits in appropriate groups of disciplinary sectors or the achievement of other requirements provided for by current legislation), and in possession of highly specialized skills, which can be profitably spent in other work areas and in other contexts, such as the cultural and publishing industry and public and private bodies. The course aims to provide a solid linguistic and literary culture, not separated from a good methodological preparation in the field of historical and artistic disciplines. The main educational objectives are: (1) advanced knowledge of the national literary tradition from the Middle Ages to the Contemporary Age, on which to exercise, with critical awareness and appropriate methodologies, autonomous investigations both from the historical-political and cultural point of view, and from the linguistic-philological and rhetorical one; (2) mastery of a solid critical method of analysis of cultural phenomena, not only at national but also European level, specific skills in the field of the history of the tradition of texts, cultural phenomena and their propagation, historical, anthropological and geographical dynamics, progress of the arts; (3) specific skills in writing, producing and correcting popular and scientific texts, and more generally a solid competence in the field of "specialized" communication; (4) ability to make independent critical judgements and skills in the use of tools to produce knowledge and promote national and European culture, both at a popular level and among an audience of experts; (5) knowledge of computer tools for the humanities and a good competence in the use of at least one foreign language, with particular attention to specialized lexicons.
