Midwifery
The degree program in Midwifery qualifies students for the profession of midwife. The program, taught in Italian, has limited enrollment and provides adequate preparation in basic and clinical disciplines related to the physiological and pathological processes that are the focus of preventative and therapeutic intervention. Practical training and clinical internships are conducted under the guidance of tutors and coordinated by a faculty member. Professional development includes various activities, including: identifying physical, psychological, and social needs and diagnosing women's needs for support and intervention in various social and healthcare settings; providing assistance to pregnant women; providing comprehensive information and advice regarding family planning issues based on the principle of responsible motherhood and fatherhood; providing reproductive health education to couples and the community; and establishing intervention strategies aimed at preventing genital cancers and STDs. The legal duration of the program, in accordance with Ministerial Decree 270/04, is three years, with mandatory attendance. Students have three exam sessions. To be admitted to the final exam, students must have earned all credits in the educational activities included in the study plan, including those related to professional internships. The final exam is organized, by decree of the Minister of Education, University, and Research, in consultation with the Ministers of Labor and Health, into two sessions defined at the national level. The first is typically held in October-November and the second in March-April.
