Mathematics
The Master’s Degree Programme in Mathematics at the University of Bari is an open-admission, two-year programme organised into semesters. The Master’s Degree in Mathematics is awarded upon completion of at least 120 ECTS credits.
The programme provides advanced knowledge and methodologies in the main areas of Pure and Applied Mathematics, as well as Physics. Its aim is to train flexible and adaptable professionals who are able to approach, analyse and solve complex problems and to take on positions of high responsibility in a wide range of scientific, applied, financial, service-related and healthcare sectors. Graduates are also expected to be able to further develop their skills independently, including in international contexts. Particular emphasis is placed on both theoretical and practical programming skills and on proficiency in English. Some courses include laboratory activities.
The Master’s Degree Programme in Mathematics is divided into three study tracks: General Track; Applied Mathematics and Finance Support Track; Education Track
The **General Track** is intended for students who wish to deepen their knowledge in different areas of Mathematics. The courses included in this track may also provide preparation for further study, such as a PhD in Mathematics or research training at research institutions.
The **Applied Mathematics and Finance Support Track** is intended for students interested in the professional applications of Scientific Computing, with particular reference to economics and finance, and/or in the simulation of mathematical models and emerging mathematical techniques in Cryptography, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. In addition to consolidating the fundamental mathematical and physical knowledge acquired during the Bachelor’s Degree, this track provides mathematical and computational tools that can be applied in Economics and Finance, mathematical modelling and data analysis across a variety of scientific and professional fields.
The **Education Track** is intended for students interested in teaching and education. In addition to consolidating the fundamental mathematical and physical knowledge acquired during the Bachelor’s Degree, this track provides advanced study of the foundations of Mathematics and of teaching methodologies specific to Mathematics and Physics.
Students choose their study track when enrolling in the second year of the programme.
