HISTORY OF ART

The Master's Degree Course in Art History aims to train professionals able to operate with competence and autonomy both in the primary field of historical-artistic investigations in the regional and national territory, and in the broader and more diversified one of public and private structures responsible for the protection, management, enhancement and use of historical-artistic heritage. In continuity with the preparation gained in the context of previous courses of study, graduates must be able to link the study of cultural heritage to historical contexts, in a perspective open to the phenomenon of exchanges and relations with the Mediterranean and European area. In fact, graduates will develop knowledge and understanding of the historical, cultural and historical-artistic context, continuing and expanding the study of disciplines previously addressed (the historical-artistic and archaeological disciplines) and acquiring new contents (the phenomenon of patronage and the art market, the history of art criticism, iconography and iconology, the techniques of artifacts, restoration, the management of cultural heritage, etc.). The application of the methodologies of census, cataloguing, analysis of territorial frameworks and artifacts will allow them to develop ideas and contexts of a design type in an original way. Teaching is divided into lectures, seminars, workshops, internship activities and inspections of monuments and museum institutions in the area. In particular, the course provides for the activation of professionalizing laboratories (Other knowledge for entry into the world of work, 3 CFU) aimed at acquiring skills in the fields of information technology applied to cultural heritage, computerized cataloguing, organization of exhibitions and museum care, archival research.
