Geological Sciences

The Degree Course in Geological Sciences, through a solid basic preparation in scientific disciplines and the cquisition of fundamental knowledge relating to the main application methods of Earth Sciences, provides unique skills for: the analysis of geological systems and processes; the acquisition of data, both in the laboratory and in situ, in application areas such as: geological cartography, geological and geophysical investigations for the exploration of the subsoil, the retrieval of georesources, the analysis and certification of geological materials, the zonation of geological risks. The teaching activity is carried out both through lectures in the classroom supported by audiovisual tools and educational collections of minerals, rocks, fossils and geological maps, and through classroom, laboratory and field exercises; it is also carried out through an internship (compulsory) and the attendance of seminars (free). Particular importance is attributed to field activities, aimed at providing skills in the understanding of geological phenomena, in the study and description of the geometries of rock bodies and in learning basic cartographic techniques, with particular reference to geological surveying. In fact, in addition to the field activities of some courses, students must attend a "geological campaign", which consists of field activities conducted during an excursion lasting a few days. External training internships, carried out in institutions, companies, public structures or private professional studios, also play an important role by putting the student in front of a geological problem to be faced and solved, thus introducing him to the world of work.
