Docente presso l’Università di Bari ha tenuto a partire dall’ A.A. 1999/2000 per gli insegnamenti di Selvicoltura generale, Selvicoltura speciale, Selvicoltura urbana, Selvicoltura industriale, Arboricoltura da legno e Prevenzione dagli incendi boschivi. Ha insegnato in corsi di perfezionamento e di master presso l’Università di Bari, il Politecnico di Bari, l’Università della Tuscia, l’Università di Bologna e l’Università di Catania.
E’ membro del Collegio dei docenti del Dottorato di ricerca in “Indirizzo di gestione e ingegneria dei biosistemi agro-forestali” presso l’Università di Bari.
Socio ordinario dell'Accademia dei Georgofili e dell'Accademia Italiana di Scienze Forestali.
E’ membro delle Unità 6.14.00 Urban forestry e 8.01.02 Landscape ecology dell’International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO). Collabora con FAO nell’ambito dei gruppi di lavoro UPFs (Urban and Periurban Forests) e TOF (Trees outside forests). Dal 2010 sta collaborando con la UE per l’elaborazione del Forestry Action Plan.
Membro dell’Editorial board della rivista Urban Forestry and Urban Greening (Elsevier) e della Rivista Italia Forestale e Montana.
Effettua attività di referaggio per le seguenti riviste scientifiche: Arboricolture and Urban Forestry (ISA), Forestry: an International Journal of Forest Research (Oxford University Press), Landscape and Urban Planning (Elsevier), Urban Forest and Urban Greening (Elsevier), Forest@ (SISEF), L’Italia Forestale e Montana (AISF).
Effettua attività di referaggio per i progetti di ricerca delle seguenti istituzioni: UE, Ministero delle Risorse Agricole e Forestali, Ministero dell'Istruzione, dell'Università e della Ricerca, ARSIA-Regione Toscana.
Dal 2007 al 2011 è stato consigliere del Consiglio Universitario Nazionale (CUN) per l’area 07 in rappresentanza dei docenti di II fascia.

Sviluppa la sua attività scientifica prevalentemente nei seguenti campi:
a) pianificazione ecologica del territorio forestale (compresa la prevenzione dagli incendi boschivi); b) selvicoltura; c) selvicoltura urbana; d) arboricoltura da legno. Nei campi di attività scientifica sopra elencati ha partecipato e coordinato progetti di ricerca a livello nazionale ed internazionale.

Professor at the University of Bari in the field of Forestry, Urban Forestry, Timber production and Wild fires prevention. He held lectures in courses and master's degrees at the University of Bari, Bari Polytechnic, the University of Tuscia, University of Bologna and the University of Catania.
Member of the Ph.D. in' Address biosystems engineering and management of agro-forestry "at the University of Bari
Member of the Academy of the Italian Academy of Forest Sciences Georgofili.
He is active in Urban Forestry Unit 6.14.00 and 1.8.02 Landscape ecology of the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO). It collaborates with FAO in the framework of the working groups UPFs (Urban and peri-Forests) and TOF (Trees outside forests). Since 2010 is working with the EU for the development of the Forestry Action Plan.
Member of Editorial Board of the Urban Forest and Urban Greening (Elsevier) and the Itla Forestale e Mona Montana (Italian Journal of Forest and Mountain Environments).
He is referee for Urban Forestry and Arboriculture (ISA), Forestry: an International Journal of Forest Research (Oxford University Press), Landscape and Urban Planning (Elsevier), Urban Forestry and Urban Greening (Elsevier) Forest @ (SISEF), Italy Forest and Montana (AISF).
Referee for research projects of the following institutions: EU, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Ministry of Education, University and Research, ARSIA-Tuscany.
From 2007 to 2011 was member of the National University Council (CUN).
Scientific fields:
