International students

Depending on students' specific requisites, admission and enrolment procedures may differ. In order to find out all procedures and requisites needed, please refer to a specific group.

1) Please refer to procedures for "Italian nationals, EU nationals and non-EU nationals with equal status or living in Italy" in case:

  • you are a national of a EU Member State (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Cyprus, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Czech Republic, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Hungary) or the following countries: Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Switzerland and San Marino;
  • you have dual citizenship, with at least one of a EU Member State;
  • you are a non-EU national but you hold one of the following residence permits or residence cards issued by the Italian Government (non-EU students with equal status):
    - EU permit for long-term resident status (former EC residence permit for long-term resident status or residence card);
    - for dependent or independent work;
    - for family reasons;
    - for political asylum and subsidiary protection;
    - for religious purposes;
    - for special purposes (art.18, 18-bis and 22, subsection 12-quater, Italian Law Decree, July 25, 1998, no. 286);
    - for calamity-related reasons (art. 20-bis, Italian Law Decree, July 25, 1998, no. 286);
    - for exceptional merit (art. 42-bis, Italian Law Decree, July 25, 1998, no. 286);
    - for special protection (art. 32, subsection 3, Italian Law Decree, January 28, 2008, no. 25);
  • you are a non-EU national but you have been living in Italy for at least one year and you hold an education degree (secondary school) earned in Italy, allowing admission to the selected course of study (non-EU students with equal status);
  • you are a non-EU national but you hold an education degree allowing admission to the selected course of study in Italy and you hold a valid residence permit for study-related reasons;
  • you are a non-EU national but you are enrolled in a course of study in an Italian University, holding a valid residence permit for study-related reasons and you would apply for transfer or change in the subsequent Academic Year;
  • you are a non-EU national and you are enrolled in a single course in an Italian University, you hold a residence permit for study-related reasons, and you wish to enrol in a course of study pertinent or coherent with the passed single courses without referring to the Italian Embassy in your country for another pre-enrolment and a new permit. Please refer to the International Students Administration Area (U.O. Studenti Stranieri) to obtain further info concerning all requisites needed to renew your residence permit for study-related reasons;
  • you or one of your parents or your spouse work in a Diplomatic Mission or in international organisations with headquarters in Italy, accredited to the Italian State or the Holy See.

2) Please refer to procedures for "non-EU nationals living abroad" in case: you are a non-EU national and live outside Italy or in case you do not meet the requisites to have a EU national status; in this case, a D-type permit (University enrolment) is needed after pre-enrolling at an Italian Embassy abroad. 3) Please refer to procedures for “Marco Polo students” in case: you are a Chinese national and you are part of the Marco Polo Programme.
